Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that provides the books kids want to read. It's a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level.
Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Please make plans to come to our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child's reading habits.
Remember, all purchases benefit our school. See you at the Book Fair!

Dear Parents,
January 22-26 is White Ribbon Week at our school. Our goal is to empower our kids to take charge of what they view, what they post, and what they pass along. No one can make you watch something you don't want to watch! As parents we want to protect our kids from all online dangers. It's a tough job! But when kids know exactly what to do, they do a great job of making choices to keep themselves safe!
Each Day we'll learn a "Power Boost" Message:
Monday: "I have the power to not view or share embarrassing or negative information."
Tuesday: "I have the power to tell an adult if anything makes me feel uncomfortable or scared."
Wednesday: "I have the power to ask before I download."
Thursday: "I have the power to turn it off."
Friday: "I have the power to help my friends make safe choices online."
Please discuss these power boosts together with your family. Ask your child to share what they learn each day! The greatest protection comes as you discuss your values and establish media rules together.
Talking is the key! Kids very often lack the ability to discern online dangers. They need you to help them sort through all the media that surrounds them. Don't worry that your child seems so young. Now is the time! The average age at which a child sees inappropriate images is age 9. If your child has seen indecent material, remember not to blame or shame. Stay calm and express love. Remind them that they can talk to you about anything! Together you can make a plan to use technology safely for learning and fun!
- Your White Ribbon Committee

6 Things you can do today to protect your child:
1. Have an open, calm conversation about online choices today. Decide together on some rules that will keep your family safe.
2. Install an internet filter on your computer today.
3. Set up parental controls on your TV.
4. Set up "Safe Search" on Google Images and "safety mode" on YouTube. Instructions at https://www.google.com/safetycenter/families/start/
5. Disable internet browsers on ipods, ipads, phones, amd game systems (including handheld).
6. Give the parent of your child's best friend a call. Agree on mutual online rules when your child is at the other's house.
